On September 26, 2019 Dr. Laura Koehl, President, Notre Dame Academy Park Hills, KY and Mr. Jack VonHandorf, Principal, shared the following letter with the Notre Dame Academy community:
“It is with great pleasure and tremendous pride that we share the good news that Notre Dame Academy was recognized by U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos today as a 2019 National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. Notre Dame Academy previously received the National Blue Ribbon recognition in 1996 and 2012 and is the first high school within the Diocese of Covington to receive this honor three times. Notre Dame Academy is the only high school in Kentucky and one of only 50 private schools in the country to receive this national recognition for 2019.
Now in its 37th year, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program requires schools to meet either of two assessment criteria. It recognizes “Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing Schools” and it recognizes “Exemplary High Performing Schools” that score in the top 15 percent on state and national assessments. Notre Dame Academy is being recognized as an “Exemplary High Performing School.”
As the only all girls school in Northern Kentucky, we are honored to be recognized as a 2019 National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. This is a testament to the ongoing dedication of our faculty and students and their commitment to excellence in education at Notre Dame Academy. We are truly appreciative of our parents and the entire NDA community for their support in making this distinction possible. Together we share in the opportunity to carry on the educational tradition of the Sisters of Notre Dame.
Shortly after the announcement was made today by the U.S. Department of Education, we gathered students, faculty and staff to share the good news. Our students were elated by the announcement and enjoyed a brief celebration.
Notre Dame Academy and the other 2019 National Blue Ribbon Schools will be honored at a recognition ceremony on November 14 and 15 in Washington, D.C. A formal National Blue Ribbon celebration for the NDA community will take place at Notre Dame Academy on November 18.
We are grateful to our teachers, staff, students, parents and alumnae for all they do to make NDA a school worthy of this recognition of excellence. We are also grateful to the Diocese of Covington for its continued support and to the Sisters of Notre Dame for the tradition of educational excellence they have created and upheld throughout the years.”
Join us in congratulating them on this wonderful accomplishment!
