Back in August, many of our school communities were thrilled to be able to participate in a once in a life time event – a spectacular total solar eclipse that crossed the United States from west to east and north to south. Special eclipse glasses were scarcer than the hottest toys each Christmas. And everywhere you turned, people were looking up! It was a wonderful science lesson that many of our partner schools took full advantage of and will remember for years to come:
Not three weeks later, Mother Nature provided another look at her power – that of wind and rain. Hurricane Irma descended with fury on the southern states just days after Hurricane Harvey battered Texas. Partnership schools in Florida battened down the hatches – cancelling classes and all ancillary events. Our prayers go out to those impacted for the safe return of all to home, school and work and for a swift recovery.
